2's Assistant Teachers 2025-26 - The O'Quinn Schools
The O'Quinn Schools of Porter-Gaud inspire lives of purpose, learning, and service through cultivating each student's god-given potential.
Porter-Gaud is an Episcopal, co-educational day school serving more than 1,000 students in grades 1-12. The O'Quinn Schools of Porter-Gaud serve an additional 600 preschool students from age two through kindergarten. The O'Quinn Schools are seeking a Long Term Substitute for our Learning Support Specialist to serve both the O'Quinn James Island campus and the O'Quinn Mt. Pleasant campus. This temporary assignment will start in late January and last approximately 12 weeks.
The position of the O'Quinn Learning Support Specialist is vital to ensure students have both learning and social-emotional support during the crucial developmental years of Pre-K. The Learning Support Specialist provides scaffolding for teachers in their journey to meet the needs of all students in these early years.
The O'Quinn Learning Support Specialist has two broad areas of responsibility: Student/Teacher Support and Parent Support, as outlined below:
Student and Teacher Support
● Support teachers in developing differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of all students.
● Assist teachers in identifying learning challenges and/or behavioral challenges in the classroom.
● Support teachers to analyze and assess student needs. This will include:
○ Observations
○ One-on-one interactions with students of concern
○ Assessments
● Work with teachers to design and implement strategies to support specific student needs in the classroom.
● Provide professional development for teachers in the area of social and emotional learning.
● Provide resources and support to teachers on an ongoing basis specific to identified areas of need.
● Work with grade levels to identify and implement appropriate social and emotional learning needs and provide curriculum, tools, and support.
Parent Support - The O'Quinn Learning Support Specialist will be a liaison between teachers and parents.
● Work with families to help them understand student specific learning and/or behavior challenges and how to implement strategies to support these.
● Assist families with identifying and accessing appropriate interventions/resources to meet the needs of their child(ren).
● Assist families in the process of obtaining and understanding a psychoeducational evaluation if needed.
The Successful Candidate will have:
● A Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a counseling or education related field.
● A minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience
● Excellent written and oral communication skills.
● Ability to define common goals and sensitively articulate them.
● Willingness to support diversity and inclusion efforts at the school. The Learning Support Specialist will display a continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills (intercultural competence) to engage in appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Reporting: The Porter-Gaud/O'Quinn Learning Support Specialist will report to the Executive Director of the O'Quinn Schools.
