Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,650 students in Preschool through 12th grade, spread throughout three campuses (includes two O'Quinn School locations).
The Security Department has an opening for the position of Security Officer to start immediately.
This position reports directly to the Director of Safety and Security and works closely with other Security and Facilities employees at all three campuses. This is a 12-month, full-time non-exempt position with benefits including health insurance, paid leave, school-provided lunch, and availability of 403(b) retirement plan.
This position will primarily work second shift (2:00pm to 10:00pm).
The Security Officer role is responsible for the safety and security of the students, faculty and staff of Porter-Gaud and the two O'Quinn Schools. The Security Officer is responsible for reducing risk to the campus and community by adhering to Porter Gaud's security measures. The duties include observation and surveillance to identify suspicious behavior, report any suspicious activity to the Director of Safety and Security, provide a visible security presence, conduct patrols, control access, write accurate and detailed incident reports, direct traffic during carpool and special events.
Flexibility is essential. This position will be required to work when the school is closed which may include holidays, weekends and extended hours in summer. Availability to attend events at any of the three Porter-Gaud/O'Quinn campuses, during both regular and extended work hours is required.
Primary Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Assessing emergencies and incidents
- Protect the school's property
- Monitor video surveillance cameras
- Control visitor and staff building access
- Conduct security checks in and around campus
- Complete written activity reports
- Addressing safety threats
- Responding promptly to security incidents
- Collaborating with First Responders
- Ability to collaborate with peers and clients
- Responding to and investigating alarms
- Guiding staff to safety
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations
- Compliance with all department rules, as specified in the Employee Handbook
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Safety and Security
- Perform security officer duties at the O'Quinn and PG campuses
Required skills:
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas, both orally and in writing
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Experience with MS Office and/or Google applications
- Self-starter, trustworthy and professional
- Experience in coaching, supervising and/or mentoring employees
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree or some college courses in a related field and/or equivalent education and security experience is required
- Experience working in a K-12 educational setting is a plus
- Valid South Carolina driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record that meets School guidelines
Physical requirements:
- Much of the work is performed outdoors with exposure to heat, humidity, the cold and inclement weather
- Continuously demands vision, hearing, fine motor skills, and speaking
- Directing traffic and crowd control
