Part Time Spanish Teacher - O'Quinn Schools

Porter-Gaud is an Episcopal, co-educational day school serving more than 1,000 students in grades 1-12. The O'Quinn Schools of Porter-Gaud serve an additional 600 preschool students from age two through kindergarten. The School is looking for a Part Time Spanish Teacher to start as soon as possible. This is a part time, non - exempt, 10 month position.

Spanish is taught in our 4K and 5K programs at both the James Island and Mount Pleasant campuses. Spanish is taught through auditory and visual modes including the following components:

  • Incorporate movement wherever possible. Attach motions to words, and use brain breaks that help get the wiggles out.
  • Keep activities short and plan to switch activities every 5-10 minutes if needed.
  • Use real objects and visuals to make it hands-on and always stay comprehensible.
  • Build in a variety of activities: songs, stories, games, chats, play, and videos. It's best to have a combination of calming activities and movement-based activities.
  • Create routines that help the children know what to expect.
  • Be silly and fun!
  • Review, review, review. Little ones like repetition, and doing familiar activities is easier when they know what to do.- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and promote language acquisition

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a degree or certification in field.
  • High proficiency in the Spanish language and fluency in English.
  • Teaching experience in preschool education, preferably.
  • The Part Time Spanish teacher will display a continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills (intercultural competence) to engage in appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We desire candidates who will contribute to the school's efforts to continue creating a more inclusive and equitable community where all individuals can develop a sense of belonging.
